There is a pretty nifty game mechanic called Glory Kills. Back to the health regen or rather lack of it. I truly believe you will have a greater appreciation playing on Ultra Violent and not on “I’m too young to die” – dealer’s choice though. Quick aside: this review was written based on a playthrough on ultra violent. I have nothing against cover shooters but if you try ducking in cover while you figure out a strategy, hordes of demons will rip you limb to limb (Literally, limb from limb – the game has some pretty awesome killcams of your inevitable deaths you will die so might as well enjoy the show). For starters, there is no health regeneration. Anyway…ĭOOM is not just another run of the mill shooter. If Bender had a shotgun and was stuck with demons instead of Molly Ringwald (it is debateable which would be the nightmare). Kind of like Bender from the Breakfast Club. There is no long expose or some boring monologue. The demon killing rampage you will embark on begins within the first minute of starting the campaign. If I had to describe DOOM in one word, it would be phenomenal. I just figured that if I purchased DOOM, it would take a back seat to the other games I was currently playing. I even participated in the multiplayer beta which I enjoyed to a degree. When it was announced, I will admit there was some feeling of nostalgia. I am not trying to say I expected it to be horrible or that it would be game of the year material. I had no expectations for DOOM this year.
